  • Constituion of the United States of America

    The Constitution of the United States of America was created, within the Constituion if the Bill of Rights. The Constitution guides American law and political culture.
  • Importation of Slaves Act

    This act stated that no new slaves were permitted to be imported into the United States.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo put an end to the Mexican-American war. This was a settlement between the United States and the mexican Republic.
  • California Gold Rush

    The California Gold Rush caused immigrants from all over including Chinese, Europeans, and Mexicans to mine for gold in California, being forced out of mining camps.
  • The Chinese Exclusion Act

    The Chinese Exclusion Act provied a ten year moratorium on Chinese labor immigration. Also put new requirements of Chinese who were already in the country.
  • Immigration Act of 1882

    The Immigration Act of 1882 stated that any illegal aliens who landed on any U.S. ports would be taxted 50 cents. State commission and officers were in charge of checking everyone entering the U.S. ports.
  • Naturalization Act of 1906

    The Naturalization Act of 1906 stated that immigrants were required to learn English in order to become naturalized citizens.
  • U.S. Border Patrol Formed

    U.S. Border Patrols were formed to secure the borders between inspection stations.
  • Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965

    This Act abolishied all previous existing immigration. President Lyndon Johnson signed the bill saying that it violated the basic principal of American Democracy.
  • Immigration Reform and Control Act

    The Immigration Reform and Control Act was passed to control illegal immigrants by making it illegal for employers to hire illegal immigrants.
  • U.S. Immigration and Naturalization

    The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization service is moved into the Department of Homeland Security and is renamed the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
  • National Gaurd Secures Borders

    President Bush announces that he will send 6,000 National Guard members to secure the borders, as well as assist Border Patrol. This doubles the size of patrol located along the borders.
  • U.S. Mexico Border

    700 miles of walls is built along U.S. and Mexico's borders.
  • SB1070

    Arizona Governer Jan Brewer signs SB1070. This requires police to determine immigration status of someone arrested or detained under resonable suspicion.
  • Alien Registration Act

    The Alien Registration Act required that all aliens within the United States be fingerprinted and have a record of every illegal immigrant over the age of 14.
