The word "immigrant"
Jedidiah Morse used the word "immigrant" to decscribe people who have come to America in his patriotic textbook called, "American Geography". Before the only the word emmigrant had been used. The Naturalization Act of 1790
This act allowed free white people who had good character to live in the U.S for two years. This would be extended to their children if they were under 21. When granted this right they would have to take an oath.

Aliens Enemies Act
This act would be enacted if some foreign power would declare war on the United States. If that happened then this act said if any citizens from that country were living there that had not been naturalized were to be deported or imprisoned.

Louisianna Purchase 1803
France sold 828,000 square miles to the United States. This purchase occured under President Jefferson. It doubled the size of the United States. The total cost was about $15 million. It was good because the population of the United States was growing at the time.
