It caused many poor people to immigrate to America because they ate the potatoes. When we came to America, I don't remember anything because I was a baby; but my parents told me about Ellis Island and the beautiful Statue of Liberty when the boat came to Ellis Island

    When I was eight years old, my parents caught a really bad fever on Christmas day. They died because of urbanization. There were way too many people living in New York City because there were jobs and housing. I had to live with my parents' friends, Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig. They had 10 children and didn't have enough money to feed me. I had a hard time finding a job because people didn’t want to hire me because I was an Irish catholic. I finally got a job at a factory where I had to bottle milk.

    We started our farm.We worked hard to make it, we earned money to improve it, and we bought animals and livestock.

    I met a nice Irish man as I was walking home from my factory job. I accidentally dropped my bags and he helped me pick them up. We fell in love, and then we got married. We shared the same dream; to start a farm in the west, have kids, and we both wanted to get out of the crowed cities caused by urbanization and immigration. The Homestead Act helped us with our dreams. We decided to move to Missouri. We both had enough money saved up, so we took a train.

    On a calm, warm, late August night, I heard a crackling sound, and I could smell smoke. I looked out the window and saw a giant fire spreading across our farm and it stretched for miles. I yelled "Fire!" and got out of bed to check on my kids. My husband came with me to check on our kids. We were too late. The fire had caused my houses to catch on fire. My husband and I escaped. I never saw our farm again. My husband said the fire was probably caused by a big bomb fire that wasn’t controlled. Ou

    My husband and I were still devastated of what happened, but we got over it. My husband and decide to move on, and move to California. The fire had caused us to move to another place. We started a new farm, and had two more children.
