Created a two step naturalization process that gave people the title of citizen and not natural born citizen. This act made clear that naturalized citizenship was on for "free white persons." -
Chinese Immigrants Come to California
Many chinese immigrants came to California and worked as miner's. California imposed a foreign miner's tax primarily aimed at the Chinese immigrants. -

Many chinese and irish immigrants came to the United States for jobs working on the railroad. -
Ellis Island Opens
Ellis Island opened in New York Harbor with 12 million immigrants passing through over the coming 30 years. Most people coming through were Europeans. -
Angel Island Opens
Processed and deported immigrants at San Francisco Bay. Most of these immigrants were Asian. -
Emergency Quota Act
This act restricted immigration in the United States. The restricted number of immigrants were 3% of the number of people living in country in 1910. -
Alien Registration Act
This act made it illegal to encourage or teach the desirability to overthrow the government.This act required all aliens in the U.S. to file a statement of their personal,occupational, and political status. The main goal of this act was to weaken the Communuist Party. -
The Immigration Act of 1990
This act increased the number of immigrants allowed into the country each year to 700,00. Rich still had a much easier time immigrating than the poor for the fact that visas were offered to immigrants willing to invest money. -
Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act
This act built up border enforcement and also stated that aliens did not receive benefits living in the United States. -
USA Patriot Act
The point of this act was to strengthen security and expand the powers of law enforcement agencies. The terrorist attacks brought this act into play.
