Aussie gold rushes.
In 1851 gold was found near Bathurst, Australia. The findings made big news! It was herd all over the world. At the beginning of 1851 Australia's population was a pitiful 437,655 and with %18 in Victoria (77,345) just 1 decade later Australia's population had increased to 1,151,947 with Vic growing to %47 (538,628). -
Populate Or Perish
In 1945 the Australian government proposed an ambitious post-war population reconstruction progam. In doing this the government set up the Department of Immigration and interduces a migration sceme to increse the population of Australia by 1 persent every a year, in 1947 permenant residency was granted to non-European immagrants seeking entry for business reasons and to those who have lived in the country for 15 years. -
The Snowy Mountains Scheme starts.
The Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme is most certainly the biggest engineering project ever attempted in Australia. The construction of the Snowy mountains Scheme is veiwed by most as a very prominant point in Australia's history, and an important symbol of Australia's identity as an independent, multicultural and resourceful country. -
Non-Europien immigration relaxed.
(ignore the date and month) The Australian Government changes the conditions for easier entry into Australia for people of non-European desent. In That very same year, over 14,000 "recorded" refugees arrive from Hungary after an uprising. In doing this, Australia brought on the 250,000th migrant, his name was Mr. Otto Kampe. -

The End Of White Australia.
it was the labor government of Whitlem (elected in 1972) which completly iradicated all signs of the "white Australia policy." It also went one step further, it publicised australia's new "non-discrimitory" policy. By the 70's australia was still prodominatly white. Events in Asia would soon change this. -
Post Vietnam War
The war in Vietnam had ended, but what it left behind-just might've been worse. A government that kiled any form of human being that had half a brain. The result from this is tens of thousands of people beening driven to the baorders and setting up camps waiting for resettlement. Some people lived there for years. Over ten years from 1976, Australia took over more than 94,00 IndoChinese refugees. This was a hudge leap for a country that just a few years before had a "white" policy in place.
