Cause and Spark of World War I
World War I was the first global war of the 1900s. It began in Europe. They formed military alliances. Austria-Hungry's Archduke Franz Ferdinand was killed by Serbia, and they declared war. In 1918 the central powers surrendered, they were forced to accept hard punishments.

Overthrowing Tsar Nicholas II
Tsars are like emperors, had ruled Russia for hundreds of years. In 1917 revolution force the Tsar Nicholas II to give up the throne, because the people didn't like how he ruled. Later, Lenin took stand.

The Trench Warfare and Treaty of Versailles
The trench warfare started in World War I. It was when soldiers dug lines abought seven feet deep to avoid enimy fire. Machine-gun fire and poison gas killed eight million people in trench warfare. Germany and Austria-Hungary surrendered and accepted the punishment of the Treaty of Versailles. The Treaty of Versailles stated that they were not able to have an army, pay for all of the damage and more.

Roaring Twenties
It was a time of great prosperity in the U.S, People bought many new things. New forms of art such as Jazz music became popular. It was a fast paced life-style. Many people bought cars, electric appliances, and radios for the first time.

The rise of Communism & Joseph Stalin
Communism is when everyone gets the same pay nomatter what job they did. People liked it because it put some people out of poverty. Joseph Stalin ruled the Soviet Union ruthlessly. He punished who ever questioned his law and killed 10 million of his people.

The Great Depression-America during the Depression & Stock market
The Great Depression is the economic down swing of the 1930s. Many people could not find jobs in America. They did not have lots of money. The stock market took a down turn during the Great Depression.

Hoovervilles
Hoovervilles are towns with homes made out of anything people could find. Lots of in America lived in one during the Great Depression. It is named after president Hurbert Hoover who is blamed for the Great Depression.

World War II - Nazi Germany
The great depression hit Germany especially hard. They were still suffering from harsh peace treaty of versailles. Adolf Hitler took advantage of Germany. He lead the Nazi Party. He used threats and military forces, Hitler took control of lands.

The Holocaust
The Nazis did some of the worst things in World War II. They tried to destroy groups of people including the Jews. The Nazis sent the Jews to concentration camps. The Jews were worked to death, tortured, and killed. They killed about six million people.

The Bombing of Pearl Harbor
In 1941, Japan attacked America forces at Pearl Harbor. The next we joined the war and sided with the allies. In 1941, Hitler invaded Soviet Union. They also joined the allies.

Atomic Bomb-Japan
Germany surrendered but Japan kept fighting. President Harry S. Truman thought invading Japan would kill tens of thousands of people. President Truman ordered to use the new atomic bomb. The US dropped the bomb and killed 100,000 people. Japan surrendered.

The Cold War
Even though the Soviet Union and U.S. were in the war together, they still had different governments. The U.S. were capitalism and the Soviet Union was communist. In 1945 the soviet union controlled Eastern Europe. The Union wanted to spread the communist system through the world.

North Keorea
Communist North Korea invaded noncommunist South Korea. It was the start of the Korean war. The United States and other democratic countries supported South Korea and communist China helped North Korea. The war ended in a stalemate.

Vietnam War
It was in Southeat Asia, Vietnam had split into communist north and noncommunist South Vietnam. In 1960s the U.S. supported South Vietnam. Thousands of Americans and millions of Vietnamese died. In 1975, North Vietnam beat South Vietnam and the whole country was communist.

End of the Cold War
The Cold War ended 1991 when the communist rule collapsed in the Soviet Union. Most of Eastern Europe rejected communism. It also ended because capitalism produced more wealth than communism. The Soviet Union broke apart into smaller nations. Russia became friendlier rlations with the us.
