  • the start of the occupation

    this is when the Japanese started the occupation towards hong kong, also known as when the nightmare started.
  • The first Canadian engagement

    On December 11th, they swapped gunfire with the enemy and then became the first Canadian unit to take part in combat in the second world war.
  • the choice of forfeit for hong kong

    On that day, the Japanese demanded surrender but Hong Kong denied surrender.
  • The Japanese offers surrender again

    The Japanese requested surrender again but Hong Kong didn't budge, the situation has turned very depressing. With the sinking of the 2 British ships to Malaya and the devastating event in pearl harbor, there wasn't a lot of hope left.
  • Attack in the island

    On the 18th of December, the invasion came in around nightfall. Nobody expected them to come that fast so they weren't ready. The enemy launched 4 separate assaults to the beaches on the northern beaches of Hong Kong.
  • Building defences in Hong Kong

    By nightfall on December 19, a new defensive line was formed from palm villa to Stanley mound, and a headquarters was formed at stone hill.
  • The final surrender

    At 3:15 pm on Christmas day, general Maltby told the governer that further work would be incapable of producing any useful result.
  • Battle of Christmas

    The Royal Rifles celebrated Christmas Day, 1941, by returning to battle. Mr Wallis ordered a counter-attack to regain ground lost the night before.
