The first invention
The first Hybrid Steam Engine was invented by Thomas Savery on January 1st 1705 [https://www.timetoast.com/timelines/hybrid-steam-engine] -
A better design
On January 1st of 1712 a man by the name of Thomas Newcomemen creates a better design for the steam enginehttps://www.timetoast.com/timelines/hybrid-steam-engine -
The death of the hybrid steam engine
The Hybrid steam engines were becoming less used in the 1960. We don't use them today. http://www.saturdayeveningpost.com/2013/05/11/history/post-perspective/locomotive-diesel-engine.html -
How the engine works
The way the engine works was to boil in the normal way but using fuel oil instead of coal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_diesel_hybrid_locomotive -
Russia's turn
Russia built 3 experimental locomotives between 1939 and 1949. One of the locomotives used gas to fuel it's internal combustion cylinders. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_diesel_hybrid_locomotive -
The Swiss give it a try
in 1925 Jakob Buchli created a combined steam and internal combustion engine locomotive. This differed from the kiston still system. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_diesel_hybrid_locomotive -
Moving to cars
In 1830 the steam engine was put in cars. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_diesel_hybrid_locomotive -
How it changed
Back then they used coal and other fuels to run these engines. Today these type of engines charge during the night or use solar panels to run. https://www.budgetdirect.com.au/interactives/special-feature/history-of-hybrid.html -
Safety
They obtain boilers and other components that produce heat. This makes it so you have to watch what you are doing. If the boiler leaks it can cause ans explosion. Some failures may include Over-pressurisation of the boiler. Pressure vessel failure. And build up of sediment ans scale -
Why it isn't used today
It is not used today for the more time it will take to warm up the boiler. It would also have to make more energy to move a 1 tone car in today's world. It would also waste some of the worlds supply of water. We already are running out of it and no sense of wasting more of it just to get to work. http://www.instructables.com/answers/Why-hasnt-the-steam-engine-been-reborn-for-modern/
