NY State of Emergency
New York was the first to declare a state of emergency followed by the state of New Jersey ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Sandy. -

Governer Christy declared a state of emergency in the state under the advice of the severity of the pending storm and its potential distruction. -
The Fury
The death toll from Sandy had risen to 66 moving through the caribbean towards the the US east coast. Schools were ordered closed and evacuations ordered in parts of lower Manhattan, parts of Brooklyn, Staten Island, Atlantic City NJ. There were 72 evacuation centres created in and around the city. -
D Day
Sandy made landfall at 5am with sustained winds of 85 miles an hour after turning north according to the National Hurricane Center. Thousands of NJ and LI residents awoke to having no electricity and five thousand homes and businesses in and around NJ were withot power. -
Presidential Elections
President Barack Obama won reelection having been the first elected black president in the U.S. He won with over 51% of the popular vote. His repubican challenger Mitt Romney lost with 47% of the popular vote. -

Victims of Hurrcane Sandy which began on October 26, 2012 in parts of New Jersey may qualify for tax relief from the Internal Revenue Service. The President declared the region a federal disaster area. That individuals and businesses residing in these areas qualify for Tax Relief.
