  • How Hurricane Katrina Got It's Name

    On August 24, 2005 it became a tropical storm while heading to Florida and it was given the name Katrina. No impact to the enviroment or people because it hasn't reached land.

    Becoming a Hurricane
    Once it got to the Gulf of Mexico, it weakened, but it regained strength after an hour. It changed from a catergory 3 to category 5 hurricane in 9 hours. This made a lot of people nerves and scared. They knew that their surroundings would be destroyed.

    Katrina strengthened to a category 3 storm in the Gulf of Mexico at 10 a.m, Later that day NHC realized that Katrina had yet to make the turn toward the Florida Panhandle, a tourist attraction, They end up rethinking a came up with a prediction of the storm's path. Instead of it hitting Panhandle it would hit the Mississippi coast.

    The state of Mississippi activated its National Guard in preparation for the storm's landfall. Since the National Guard had to get involved, it freaked many people.
  • Evacuation

    The state government ordered a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans. People had to hurry up and leave. Nobody knew if they would get out in time, With all the cars running and all in the same space it cause pollution in the air.
  • The State and Local Government

    In addition to the National Guard, the state government activated its Emergency Operations Center, and the local government began issuing evacuation orders. Because of the involvement with the government it freaked out a lot of people even more.
  • Intensity

    It attained level 5 intensity, and hit maximum winds of 175mph. Tearing down everything in site, destroying peoples cars, homes, and the trees in the enviroment.
  • Warning Zone

    The size of Katrina had become clear. The NHC extended the tropical storm warning to cover most of Louisiana coastline and a larger portion of the Florida Panhandle. The National Weather Service's New Orleans/Baton Rouge issued a worded bulletin stating that the area would be unhabitable for weeks after devastating damages from Katrina. Significant amounts of industrial waste and raw sewage spilled directly into New Orleans neighborhoods.

    Made it's second landfall at 11:10 UTC (6:10 a.m. CDT) as a catogeroy 3 with substained winds of 125 mph near Buras-Triumph, Louisiana.It affected the land and people by tearing anything that was in its way. The unhealthy enviroment affected the health and safety of many humans and animals.

    Hurricane Katrina downgraded to a tropical depression near Clarksville, Tennessee, but was last distinguishable to the eastern Great Lake region when it was absorbed by a frontal boundary, The resulting wave cyclone storm moved rapidly to the northeast and affected eastern Canada. Still the people and enivorment is affected. The enviroment is damaged and the people suffer because most resources are gone. Hurricane Katrina left behine a unhealthy enviroment for the Gulf Coast .
