The Last Supper (Religion)
This painting was done by Leonardo Da Vinci. It depicts the story on where Jesus tells his disciples that one of them will betray him by sunrise, with everyone looking confused, angry, or shocked. The artist is trying to paint a picture to show the person looking at it what was going on at that time so can we not only read the story we can put a visual to it. I think this work is important because it is one of the famous works of religion. Everyone knows about this painitng and its importance. -

The Wedding Feast at Cana (Religion)
This painting was done by Paolo Veronese. This depicts the first miracle done by Jesus, when the beverages where running low, Jesus told them to bring water to him, when they did, he turned that water into wine. The message in this painting is to show the excitement within the people as Jesus turned this water into wine, and the uproar it caused when he did it. I think this work is important because it shows the story and you can really feel what happened their and how everyone was feeling. -
The Raising of Lazarus (Visual Arts)
This painting was done by Rembrandt. This painting is depicting when Lazarus is being raised from the dead because Christ is calling for him, it also shows the amazement from everyone watching as this miracle is performed. The artist is trying to show yet another miracle performed by Christ and how he is able to do all these things. This work is important because it helps depict a story from the Bible and be able to bring emotions into it to make you feel some sort of way looking at it. -
Annabel Lee (Literature)
This is a poem by Edgar Allan Poe. It is about his long lost love Annabel Lee, who had died long ago but the speaker still loves her despite that and always will until he dies. The authors messages is love will always live on no matter what. It is an important work because it is one of Poe's more famous works and it is quite dreary but it also makes you think onto who you love and if they were to be gone, would you keep holding on or would you move on and quit loving them. -
George Washington Crossing the Deleware (History)
This is a painting by Emanuel Leutze. This depicts the surprise attack Washington planned in the Revolutionary War in December 25th through the 26th. He took his men across the icy water in this picture. The artist is trying to show the power that Washington had and he is tryin to show how he could not be stopped no matter what, he was determined. This is important because this is a huge part of the beginning of our history and how we started that long ago. -
Slave Hunt (History)
This is a painting by Thomas Moran. This painting depicts a family of slaves on the run from slave catchers and their dogs trying to hunt the family down as they try to get to freedom. The artist was trying to show how life for these slaves were and how it was a constant on the run for them with no safety and constantly in fear. These piece is very powerful because its a true depiction, it really shows how slaves felt and how scared they constantly were and the hardships they faced with running. -
Women in the Garden (Visual Arts)
This is a painting by Monet. This painting depicts Monet's partner, Camille, as do many of his paintings. This shows women in the garden in highly fashionable clothing. Monet uses Impressionim in his painting as he did with this one, I belive he is just trying to create a scene to enjoy. I think this work is important because Monet is a very important artist and this is one depiciting more that flowers or scenery, it is showing real life -
Gone with the Wind (Literature)
This is a book written by Margaret Mitchell. This piece of literature is about a southern belle, Scarlet O'Hara going through the trial of the civil war with her many suitors although a lot of it is based around her love for one man she can never have and that brings many issues into her life. Mitchell was trying to convey what life was like in those times for southerners with also bringing in a love story, I think this work is important because it is a classic read and a good read as well. -
4'33" (Performing Arts)
John Cage wrote this piece. He wrote this to be performed for any type of instrument but the piece instructs performers to not play anything, being four minutes and thirty-three seconds of silence so the audience hears the environment while sitting there. I think Cage wanted to convey that sounds and the things that are happening around the audience that they don't know when the music is actually playing. This is important because it helps appreciate the sounds and music more. -
Shoot (Performing Arts)
This act was performed by Chris Burden. Burden always did sorts of "Dangerous Art" in his lifetime and this was one of his firsts, he and a group went into a art studio and he was shot in the arm by a .22. I think Burden was just trying to do something dangerous in the name of art and I think he conveyed that. I think this is important just for the sake of how dangerous and risky it was. Pessimism (Philosophy)
I chose this concept for Philosophy because this is a big one in todays world. Pessimism basically states when thinking of things we always think of the least desirable outcomes in our life, which in the end brings us down because we are never thinking of the good. This is important because we all have these tendencies at some point in our life and if we are always bring ourselves down in our life we will never be happy and that is what a pessimist is. -
Realism (Philosophy)
Plato.I picked this concept for Philosophy because it is one major concept and it is an important one to know. Realism basically states everything has an objective and absolute existence, as in it is there and we must deal with it how it is. It is trying to convey we must deal with everything how it is and obviously be realistic about it and not try to change it. This is important because we must look at our life like that at times because there are some things we cannot change. -
