Original colonization
700 - 1200 is the estimate of the original colonization of Rapa Nui. (Hirst, K. 2018). The Polynesia's traveled across the ocean to the island in their hand made canoes. (H, J. 2010). For navigation they used stars. In the boat they brought paper mulberry trees, chickens, rats, sugarcane, and taro. Once they arrived, they started to farm. (H, J. 2010). -

Jakob Roggeveen arrived on Rapa Nui and brought diseases onto the island. 4,000 people is the estimate of the population. (Hirst, K. 2018). Jakob is the explorer that named the island Easter Island as this is the day he found it. (H, J. 2010). -
Captain Cook arrived
Captain Cook vistited Rapa Nui in 1774. (H, J. 2010).
