Introduction
Life wasn’t always tough for African of colonial V.A. Anthony Johnson lived a great life up until society made laws that discriminate African of colonial V.A. They were treated fairly when they first arrived. You see the English men weren’t always unholy or mean people. They were actually very religious. They followed The Siete Partidas Laws stated that a Christian slave could not be held for bondage for life. That’s why all Christian slaves were actually only indentured servants. -
No Guns!!
It states that on January 1639 it takes away the right of a person of color cannot own a gun. This law shows the frist sign of dimminishing progress. This law was passed to protect white familys. -
Land
When Anthony Johnsen aqured land he also found his rightful freedom. He can now feed his family and take care of them with the income he makes. Plus he is now a land owneer whitch hires his place in sociaty. This event definetly demonstrates the progress of Africans of colonial V.A. -
Wins Court Case
Anthony Johnsen loses his slave to an englishman by the name of Mr.Robert Parker. Anthony makes a complaint to the court about this. A little later they go to court, and since it is said that John Casar is a free man he returns to his real master Anthony Johnsen. -
The Child Serves According to the Mother
This law informs the Masters when a new slave is born if it is their slave or if it is free. According to the law the child is a slave if the mother is a slave but if she is free then the new born child will be free to. This law was passed to inform the people when it is a slave and when it is not. -
Hog Stealing
This is a very serious matter in colonial V.A. If a man of color were to steal a hog then they would be treated with some of the worst ways. The worst thing is that it has come to a point where a white man could just lose a hog or have it run away, and he would just blame one of his slaves, for stealing it, and no one would question him. This is the last and most grusume example of dimminishing progress. This law was passed to give whites ultamet control over blacks. -
Conclusion
All off this may seem a little misleeding, The englishmen wern't always that bad. They just did what seemed right at thier time, and they sloly steamroled colered peoples rights. If they had made all the laws at the same time then the colony of the englishmen and thier familys would have noticed that something wasn't fair or right. If you don't learn your lesson then something as bad or worse than slavery could happen! again.
