How anime affects cosplayer outfits

  • Namakura Gatana

    Namakura Gatana
The first ever anime created was Namakura Gatana. The anime from looking at photos seems very uncolourful and mostly man based. There are lots of debates of Namakura Gatana being the first anime or not, but it clearly fits into the genre. Namakura is a short film and we will see over time anime turns into more tv show based. Not a lot of cosplayers would have been able to dress up as these characters and it is limited towards mostly males. http://www.oldest.org/culture/anime/
  • Astro Boy

    Astro Boy
Astro Boy is now anime that is a TV show. Astro boy contains women in the TV show which now introduces women, so there are opportunities for girl cosplayers to dress up. Although, the TV show is still the main character later on we will see women characters become more dominate. The girl characters in Astro Boy are overdressed, not giving much room for creativity of the cosplayers.
  • Pokemon

    Pokemon
Pokemon is mainly based with mystical creatures which allows cosplayers to add animals to their outfits. A lot more female characters show up in this show, all characters are dressed as they are going on an quest. I feel like Pokemon highly added to cosplaying especially since it became a game where you can battle with cards which may have pulled in more cosplayers to dress as the character such as Misty and Ash.
  • Doraemon

    Doraemon
This character was the first ambassador of anime. His TV show started December 15,1969, but did not become the ambassador until 2008 which I think at the time would have highly affected the cosplay culture because cosplayers would want to support their culture, so they would dress as this anime creature.
  • Puella Magi Madoka Magica

    Puella Magi Madoka Magica
This anime is all women based. Having clothing that also shows more skin. They also add in weapons showing dominance in women which can add to cosplayers outfits. More options for accessories.
  • Little Witch Academia

    Little Witch Academia
This show combines witches with school girls. Any cosplayers dream able to dress as two different themes in one. The show has the school girls dressed in dresses, but over time cosplayers have modified the outfits to less clothing.
  • Kill la Kill

    Kill la Kill
In this anime their school outfits change to be able to combat. This allowed cosplayers to then take it upon themselves to create costumes that could possibly transforms suddenly.

  • Your Lie in April

    Your Lie in April
This anime is highly known for the music within the series. Violins and pianos show up in the show multiple times giving cosplayers the opportunity to express music in their costumes if they are also musically inclined.

  • Aggretsuko

    Aggretsuko
Recently a new series was released called Aggretsuko. The series seems to have more cartoon features to it rather than being more realistic looking to the characters. I would almost compare it to Hello Kitty as the costumes the cosplayers would be wearing are large and chunky.
  • Devilman Crybaby

    Devilman Crybaby
The series shows devils and hybrids of a devilman. This allows cosplayers to bring religion into their artistic form of dressing. You also see lot of flannels throughout the show allowing layers for cosplayers.
