Under a patent for the London Company Virginia is founded. This is the first British Colony in North America, and Jamestown is the first permanent settlement. It was known for its agriculture. The success of Jamestown itself was due to John Smith, and his work ethic. Virginia is named after Queen Elizabeth I because she was nicknamed "the Virgin Queen."

in 1620 a group of Puritans came over from England to escape religious persecution. They settled in Plymouth, we know them as the Pilgrims. John Winthrop was part of the founding members of this establishment. Ten years after they settled a larger group came over and helped to form what we now know as Massachusetts. Massachusetts is mostly known for its religious start which we can see later influences religious freedom.

English and French start a trade war that turns into a territorial and militia war. The Indians take sides. This ultimately was won by the English, who gained land out of it.
