The British wanted tea and traded things like silk and other valuable things to the Chinese but the Chinese would not accept so the but the British was broke after the war so they did not have enough money to buy the tea.The British had some parts of India and the grew cotton but that did not work but poppies were growing in India so the made them into Opium to sell to china but opium is illegal in china.
