In 1821, Honduras declared its independence from Spain. The special holiday is celebrated by having parades and parties. -
Education System
The education system in Honduras is much different than the schooling in the United States. Hardly any child completes their full education due to the fact of poverty. Many children have to drop out of school to be able to support the family and most do not come back. Only 20% of the country's population that decides to move forward to study at a University will graduate. In 1990, only 29% completed their primary education in six years, and only 46% finish. -

Liberal Party
Manuel Zelaya was the president of Honduras from 2006 to 2009 and served in the liberal party. -
National Party
Porfirio Pepe Lobo won the election in 2009 and served in the National Party. The National Party is one of the oldest political parties still used in Honduras. -
Zelaya exiled
Manuel Zelaya was exiled from his country in 2009 after compromising the constitution and attempting to have an opinion poll released. Zelaya was seeking to be reelected, which would not have been according to the Constitution. In Honduras, presidents are only allowed to serve one four-year term. Consequently, he was forced to leave which then in turn he went to Costa Rica. The government continued to block him from the country as a result of his multiple attempts to return. -

Honduras Crime Rate
With a crime rate of 79.45, Honduras is number three on the highest crime rate list in the world. Of Central America, Honduras is number one. San Pedro Sula, the second largest populated city of the country, is known as the murder capital of the world where gang activity is the cause of multiple deaths daily. Most people have to walk hours to nearest hospital, where they will wait even more hours to be seen. Hospitals are crowded and do not have sufficient health care.
