July 22, 1796 the city of Cleveland was founded. The city was founded by Mosses Cleveland a wealthy lawyer, successful politician, and land surveyor. the north and the south of the United States had been going back and forth on a few issues. The south wanted the capital and the north wanted to start national banks, so they made a swap. The Underground Railroad was finally established on June 18, 1830. The Underground Railroad was a group of people that went to southern plantations to rescue and bring slaves to the North. They did so because the North was a free territory where, once they crossed the border they would be considered a free man/women. -

November 6, 1831 Lincoln was elected President. This is a tense time where many people were terrified to see the outcome of the argument against slavery or for slavery. It eventually led up the a large conflict, the Civil War. -

July 4, 1832 a tremendous day in Akron history, the Ohio and Erie canal opens. This was important because the canals brought a lot of business and travel to Akron. -

The first shopping indoor shopping center is created
On May 30, 1890 George H. Smith design the Cleveland Arcade. This was the first indoor shopping center in the country. It included recreation, shopping, dinning, and even hotels. -
Cedar Point opens its first rollar coaster
Cedar Point didn't start as an amusement park, but after they opened the roller coaster, switch back railway (1892), it quickly became a popular tourist attraction. -
Ohio's State flag is adopted

The San Francisco earthquake
The 1906 San Francisco earthquake struck the coast of Northern California at 5:12 a.m. on April 18 with an estimated moment magnitude of 7.8 and a maximum Metallica intensity of XI. Devastating fires soon broke out in the city and lasted for several days. As a result, about 3,000 people died and over 80% of the city of San Francisco was destroyed. -
