    The act gave US or soon to be citizens 160 acres of land to improve it by cultivating crops which made the economy grow. This would take place in 30 states such as Montana, Colorado, North Dakota, and Nebraska

    President Abraham Lincoln signed the Homestead Act of 1862 on May 20, 1862, which encouraged Western migration by providing settlers 160 acres of public land.

    In 1976 the Homestead Act was repealed in the 48 contiguous state
  • What affect it had

    It improved america by increasing agriculture because the people who filed for the land had to grow crops such as grasses, clovers, timothy, root crops such as potatoes, hops, apples, wheat, and strawberries. The crops they grew they had to give it back while paying for the land which also increased the economy.
