    Homeless face a variety of illnesses

    The homeless face many health issues. The main ten are: morality and unintentional injuries like bruises, cuts, burns, etc, musculoskeletal disorders and chronic pain, hunger and nutrition, skin and foot problems, infectious diseases, dental problems, respiratory illnesses, chronic diseases and disorders, sexual and reproductive care, and lastly mental health issues.
  • Partnership for the Homeless

    The Partnership for the Homeless was created in the 1970s by civic and religious leaders. The then Mayor Ed Koch asked churches to show their compassion by creating shelters that would provide lodging, food, and fellowship to homeless individuals.
  • The National Coalition for the Homeless

    The National Coalition for the Homeless was created in 1987. They have been the leaders of uprising poverty and homelessness problems. They were also the first to put homeless individuals in higher, leadership positions. They were the first to pay attention to the education of the homeless children and veteran homelessness.
  • Homeless Advocacy Program

    A group from the Philadelphia bar and the homeless services community started Homeless Advocacy Program. They believed that providers of legal services don’t pay attention to the needs of the poor individuals. With HAP the homeless would be provided legal services where they live and eat. They get volunteer attorneys, law students, and legal assistants to provide them with free legal counseling and representation.

    In 2003 a company was started in Utah to get homes of the homeless. This company was started because there were so many homeless people in Utah. Between 2005 and 2014 the amount of homeless people dropped 72%. Now, the amount of homeless people is almost at a 0.
  • Backpack drive for the homeless

    In 2012 Ron Kaplan created a backpack for the homeless people. It was made to withstand all kinds of weather. The homeless people needed a backpack that would do this because they don’t have somewhere to go when it’s raining outside. Ron also handed these backpacks to some homeless people. He went to several different cities and gave multiple ones out to homeless people.

    As people that can afford to buy pretty much anything we want; we don't realize that some people can't afford the simplest things. For instance, shoes. We take for granted the little things, while others are just hoping to receive those little things.

    As if just simply living on the streets isn't hard enough. Imagine it in the frigid cold. When all you want it to simply get warm, but how can you do that when you have no where to go?
  • March for the Homeless

    On March 13, 2016 in Springfield, Missouri there was a march downtown. This march was to raise awareness for homeless people. There were homeless people and homeless advocates that participated in this march. They also were working on convincing the city to build an emergency shelter for the homeless. They wanted this building so the homeless would have somewhere to go in an emergency.

    When a person sees a homeless individual on the street something tells them to just look away. Like if they don't see it it won't really be there. They won't have to face the fact that homelessness exist.
  • Weather impacting the Homeless

    In April of 2017 there was a lot of rainfall in California. There was so much that the state got out of it’s drought, but one of the rivers started overflowing. There just happened to be a homeless campsite right next to this river. All of the homeless people’s things were washed away in this rain. Approximately 2,700 homeless people were living by this river and they all lost their things.
