    Adolf Hitler is considered one of the most powerful dictators of the 20th century. Hitler was born in 1889. When he was younger he was interested in fine art, but later he got into politics. He was given a political opportunity during the Great Depression but many Germans were having mixed feelings about him. After coming in second in the election, he was appointed as chancellor. In 1934 he became the head of state and government. He soon killed himself on April 30, 1945.
  • Edith Stein

    Edith Stein, born on October 12, 1891, converted to Catholicism after being born in a Jewish family. She was baptized on January 1, 1922 and began philosiphising. She became known as "Teresia Benedicta ac Cruce." After going to Holland, she was taken to Aushwitz, even though she was converted. She died on August 9, 1942 in a gas chamber.

    After World War 1, many of Germany's people were left starving and poor. The Birttish Navy had blocked off all goods imported to Germany, including food. Nearly 750,000 people died of a combination betweeen starvation and disease. When the war ended in 1918 many of the soldiers still had their weapons. The streets were littered with rubble and trash from the war. World War1 brought ecnomic disaster to Germany and it never fully recovered.

    When Mein Kampf written by Adolf Hitler, first came out in 1925, few copies sold. However millions sold after he became Chancellor of Germany. After many years of the book being available in stores, Hilter was upset he ever wrote it because of the many facts he put in. He did not actually write it himself, he had a ghost writer named Rudolf Hess. The Nazi publisher changed the name from Four and a Half Years of Struggle against Lies, Stupidity, and Cowardice to My Struggle.

    During the Great Depression, many banks became low on money so they couldn't provide money and credit. Many customers lacked confidence in them and many banks went bankrupt. Since people didn't have money from banks to by products from factories, many factories closed down. About 1.5 million Germans lost their jobs by the end of 1929. Not long after, millions had trouble finding food, and thousands of German children died from hunger-related diseases.

    President Hidenburg of Germany names Adolf Hitler Chancellor. The people of Germany turned to Hitler for reliefe After the loss of world War 1. Hindenburg was intimidated by Hitler and his growing popularity. He was against the idea of Hitler becoming Chancellor. The day Hitler became Chancellor was a changing point in German history. He increased the police force throughout the state and that's when his raid began.

    The Berlin Olympic Games were scheduled to be in Germany in 1916, but because of World War I, it couldn't be there.They were resceduled for 1931, before Hitler became Chancellor. These games lasted for two weeks in August. Lutz Lang, one of the amazing German competitors, was the perfect race according to Hiter. Because of this, he was considered Germany's "superstar athlete." Contrary, Jesse Owens, an African American competitor from America, was totally violating Hitler's dream race.

    In 1939, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union signed a non-agression treaty. Not even a week later, over 1.5 million German troops invaded Poland. One month later, the Soviet Union invaded Poland from the east. Thousands of civilians died and over 60,000 troops lost their lives, so the Polish surrendered. Not long after, the invasions had spread to Norway and Finland.

    sourceGhettos were districts in certain parts of a city where many jews were pushed into. They were isolated from the entire city and had no contact with anyone outside of the ghetto. The German's established about 1,000 ghettos in Europe. Some of the ghettos lasted only a few days where as others lasted a number of years. By 1941 jews in the ghetto were either shot or deported to consentration camps. Jews in the ghetto had to wear a badge or armband that identified that they were jewish.

    Auschwitz-Birkenau was a death camp located in Oswiecim, Poland. Birkenau, also called Auschwitz II, was used as a 'Vernichtungslager' or extermination camp and was a subdivision under Auschwitz. Sections inside Birkenau included a women's camp, a children's camp, a labor camp, a family camp, and a camp for holding goods. It is 4 kilometers from the main camp and was set up by Himmler for 100,000 people. In 1944, 27,000 women were in Birkenau.

    Adolf Hitler, the Nazi leader, commited suicide by shooting himself in the head with a pistol on April 30th, 1945. He did this after swallowing cyanide while under a bunker. Cyanide is a suicide capsole that was also taken by Hitler's new wife, Eva Braun. Eva and Hitler swallowed the capsole together in the same room at around 3:30pm. When their bodies were found, they were carried to Chancellery's Courtyard and cremated. The German Court didn't declare him dead until 1956, 11 years later.

    Joseph Goebbels was a dictator and propagandist for the Nazi party for 12 years. Goebbels had a deformed foot but found his inner power when he joined the Nazi party. He had a backround in literature and used it to his advantage. Goebbels spread his message of National Socialiam to the country of Germany. Adolf Hitler was so impressed with him that he appointed him Propaganda Leader. Goebbels manipulated the people of Germeny and cerated the image of Hitler. He commited suicide on May 1, 1945.
