Martin Luther King day was set in place on Nov. 2 1983. This holiday is always on the third monday in January. Congress gave this holiday to Martin Luther King because he was a legacy as an American iccn. He fought for equal rights for mankind. -
May - Memorial Day
originally called Decoration day which is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the United States of America. the birth place of memorial day is Waterloo, NY. It was proclaimed on May 5, 1868 by General John Logan. He said " The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comardes who died in defense of their country.." This holiday is always the last Monday in May. -
November - Veterans Day
Originally this was set in place as an U.S. legal holiday to honor Armistice Day, which is the end of WW1 that took place on Nov. 11, 1918. When they passed this holiday, it was said to be "dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be hereafter celebrated and known as 'Armistic Day.' As such this new legal holiday honored WW1 veterans." After WW2 and the Korean War congress took the word "Armistic" out and inserted "Veterans" on June 1,1954. Nov. 11 is the day to honor Americans of all wars
