The HMS Beagle leaves England on a five year sailing exploratory mission. On the ship is the young scientist, Charles Darwin. He seeks out to see new life around the globe. He is the assistant on the ship.

As this part of the voyage, Darwin crosses the Equator for the first time, and the crew participates in a ritual or hazing type ceremony, where he is "shaven" and "bathed."

Captain Robert FitzRoy returns three natives to Tierra del Fuego that had been brought to England. He tries to create a Christian mission, but it is a complete failure.

As Darwin arrived in the Falkland Islands, he found the "desolate and wretched." He found some fossils that date back to the early days of the Earth. These animals were called, brachiopods.

Darwin visits the low fertile farmlands of Rio Negro, and he comes away with high enjoyment of the "gauchos" in the area.

Darwin sees the eruption of Mountain Osomo and an earthquake in Valdivia. He observed that these events had done more damage to the island than normal wear and tear.

Darwin sees the many different types of animal life such as the enormous tortoises that fill the island. He was so impressed by the tortoises that he got on top one of them for a ride. The tortoises were nothing like the ones he had observed in other places. The iguanas were nothing like he had ever seen. The iguanas were sea based, and they swam in the ocean and ate seaweed.

Darwin found the animals in Australia the most unique and wondered why they were so different. He also noted that Sydney was a great town.

Here in this tiny island in the Indian Ocean, Darwin looked at the coral life that surrounded the island. Here he tested his theory of atoll development. He was very pleased to have visited the islands.

Darwin observed the rough black lava of the plains that have been smoothed over by the vegetation.

Darwin noted the large sandstone that rises above the city. He also noted the bullock wagons being pulled by oxen through out the city.

The HMS Beagle makes an unexpected stop back in Brazil. By this time, Darwin was seasick and homesick. He was ready to get back to England. He hated the sea and all the ships that sail upon its waters.

Darwin returns home after a long five year journey around the world. Even though he was confused in his head, it was a delight to return back to his home.
