  • The Birth of Adolf Hitler

    The Birth of Adolf Hitler
    Born on April 20, 1889, in Braunau am Inn, Austria, to parents Alois Hitler and Klara Hitler (née Pölzl)
    Historical SIgnificance:
    - He would one day lead a movement that would cause the death of millions of people
  • Hitler's Father Dies

    • Died of a lung hemorrage when HItler was only thirteen years old Cause and Effect:
    • Despite the two of them constantly disagreeing over Hitler's dream of becoming an artist, his father kept him grounded in terms of schoolwork, urging him to get good grades and to do well in school
    • After the death of his father, however, Hilter began receiving bad grades and started misbehaving in school, as he knew that his father cou;d no longer pressure him
    • This led to him dropping out of school at 16
  • Hitler's Mother Dies

    • Jewish doctor revealed that his mother had advanced breast cancer Cause and Effect:
    • Despite going through a lot of treatment trying to cure her, the doctor was unable to do anything to save Hitler's mother
    • This could be considered the very begninning of his hatred for Jews, as HItler believed that it was unfair that the Jewish doctor made his mother go through so much pain and suffering, with no end result.
  • Hitler Moves to Vienna, Turning Point #1

    • Wanted to attend an Arts school and become a great artist, but is rejected by the academy twice, and believes that he was turned away by a Jewish professor Historical Significance:
    • This made him become further abosrbed in his anti-semitic beliefs -Started paying more attention to politics
  • Hitler Moves to Munich, Germany

    Cause and Effect:
    - Since Hitler did not want to join the army in Austria, he decided to move to Munich, using the last of the money he had inherited following his father's death
    - Was caught by the Austrian government a few months later, and was going to be sent to prison for avoiding military service
    - However, he was deemed unfit and too weak to join the services, which allowed him to escape from the situation
  • Hitler Joins WWI

    Continuity and Change:
    - Driven by a sense of patriotism, HItler decides to volunteer for the German army
    - Since the country was facing a war, the medical examinations were not at strict as those in Austria, which meant that Hitler was able to pass
    - Participating in these battles allowed him to become more accustomed to war and help him understand it
    - Increased his hatred for other countries such as the U.S.
  • Blinded by Mustard Gas

    Historical Perspective:
    - A mustard gas attack from the British caused him to go blind temporarily
    - Was angered and betrayed when he learned that Germany was defeated at the end of the war as he had a lot of pride for his country
  • The German Worker's Party

    Historical Significance:
    - Hitler was influenced by their goal of creating a strong nationalist, pro-military, and anti-Semitic party consisting of people from the working classes.
    - Ths marked the beginning of Hitler's involvement in political affairs
  • The Nazi Party is Created

    Historical Significance:
    - The National Socialist German Workers’ Party, also called the Nazi Party, believed that the Jews were inferior and that they were not to be considered Germans
  • Introduces the 25 Points to the Nazi Party

    Historical Perspective:
    - Hitler was able to covince about 2,000 people that his views of the Jews were correct
    - Made them believe that the only way all the problems in Germany (unemployment, inflation, hunger, economic issues) that were created after the war, would only be solved if the Jews and other communists left the country
  • Hitler Becomes Leader of the Nazi Party, Turning Point #2

    Historical Significance:
    - When calculating the votes for the election, he only had one against him
    - This was the start of his movement agaisnt the Jews
  • The Start of the Holocaust, Turning Point #3

    Historical SIgnifcance:
    - One of the biggest massacres to ever occur
    - Almost two thirds of the Jewish population in Europe were killed because of this event
  • Hitler Becomes Chancellor of Germany

    Cause and Effect:
    - Hitler was appointed the position of chancellor by Heidenburg
    - He now has control over Germany
  • The First Nazi Conentration Camp is Opened

    Ethical Dimension:
    - Camp Dachau would only be one of the first concentration camps, with so many more following its creation
    - It was not right to place some many people in the camps just because of their background and their beliefs
  • Hitler Becomes Dictator of Germany

    Cause and Effect:
    - This positions allows his to have control of the entirety of Germany
    - Hitler was now allowed to enforce whatever rules he wanted to
  • Hitler Survives an Assassination Attempt

    Historical Perspective:
    - His life was in danger for the third time because of his high-up position as the dictator
  • Hitler Issues the "Nero Decree", Turning Point #4

    Ethical Dimension:
    - Ordered the complete destruction of Germany's infrastructure
    - It was wrong for Hitler to want to destroy all of Germany becuase of its defeat in World War II
  • The Suicide of Hitler Adolf

    • Hitler had swallowed a cyanide capsule, and then shot himself in the head. Historical Significance:
    • KIlled himself as an attempt to escape from the Russians that were planning on overtaking his residence
    • His death brought an end to the German Nazi Party
