  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles
    The Treaty of Versailles was ultimately the document that ended World War I. The treaty established peace and dictated how all the countries would move forward. Germany was negatively affected by the requirements and experienced very harsh conditions due to these requirements. Germany had to give up 10% of their prewar land, pay reparations, and their military was limited to a certain size. These consequences caused Hitler to feel a need to "fix" the country and bring back its former glory.
  • Hitler proposes Lebensraum

    Hitler proposes Lebensraum
    The term Lebensraum means a piece of land or territory a nation feels is necessary for their future or overall development and is directly associated with Nazi Germany. The Lebensraum was meant to expand German territory and make up for the land they were forced to give up after World War 1. The new land they would acquire would be home to the "elites" or the people deemed worthy by Hitler's standards. The people deemed inferior would be moved to make more space for the superior race.

    Munich Putsch
    The Beer Hall Putsch also known as the Munich Putsch was an event orchestrated by Adolf Hitler. The main purpose of this event was to try and overthrow the German government which was the Weimar Republic at the time. Their main goal was to use force and march throughout the streets and start a revolution. Once police began to push back against the marchers they realized their plan was ruined. The negative outcome resulted in detrimental consequences for the Nazi Party as well as their leader.

    Hitler is Arrested
    After the events of the Munich Putsch there were many consequences experienced by the Nazi Party leaders and followers. The main consequence was that Hitler was arrested. The police showed up to the march and took many of the Nazi leaders into custody. Hitler was arrested in 1923 but wasn't sentenced until 1924. He was originally sentenced to 5 years but got out of jail in December 1924. The time he spent in jail allowed him to devise a new plan to take over and "fix" Germany's issues.

    Goebbels joins the Nazi Party
    Joseph Goebbels joined the Nazi Party in 1924 and eventually moved his way up to a leading power within the party. When the Nazi Party began to gain more power Goebbels took on a new role as MInister of Propaganda. His main role was to put out pieces of propaganda that directly referenced or demonstrated the fundamental ideas of Hitler and the Nazis. Goebbels significance in Hitler's rise to power was creating the information that aided in influencing the German people to increase his support.
  • Himmler becomes Chief of SS

    Himmler becomes Chief of SS
    Heinrich Himmler joined the Nazi Party in 1923 and soon quit his job to show devotion to the party. After quitting his job, he eventually made his way up and became the chief of the SS (Schutzstaffel) which began as protection for Hitler. As the SS continued to grow so did their role in the country becoming a form of military and regulation in the country to keep everyone in check. Due to Himmler's role with the SS he became known as a ruthless part of the Nazi Party.

  • Hitler becomes Chancellor

    Hitler becomes Chancellor
    After the failure that occurred at the Munich Putsch Hitler realized he couldn't take over the government from the outside. Hitler would have to takeover the country and the government and corrupt it from the inside out to make space for his reign. After getting released from jail he continued campaigning and trying to gain influence and support throughout the country. Hitler was officially named chancellor in 1933. This level of power allowed Hitler the means to achieve his main objectives.
