The tension between colonists and Bostonians erupted in a shooting known as the Boston Massacre in 1770. What caused the tension was the Bostonians found the presence of British troops a threat by the British Government against its critics in Massachusetts. -
The Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts placed duties on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea. To enforce Townshend Acts the British used writs of assistance, which allowed tax collectors to search for smuggled goods. The colonists hated the new laws because they toook power away from colonial governments. The colonists responded to this act by Boycotting many British Gods again.
