Emmit Till
Mississippi- Owner of store brutally killed Emmit because he said "Bye baby" to the owner's wife. Funeral brought attention to the problem of legalized segregation and inequality withen races. -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
Alabama- Rosa Pthe Parks getting arrested ignited the tension and Martin Luther King led the boycotts eventually getting non-segregated buses because the bus industrry relied on them. -
Little Rock Nine
Little Rock Arkansas- Nine black children attend an all white school as part of the effort to end segregation. -
Sit in's
Greensboro, North Carolina- young people sat in segragated restuarants, to passivly object to the segregation. There were many fights but the african americans had to try to not fight back. -
Freedom Riders
Two buses leftWashington D.C to go south. The first bus burned and the second one all the pasengers were beaten and arrested. The goal was to spread the no segregation ideal. -
Letter from Birmingham
Alabama- matin Luther King writes letter while in the Birmingham Jail. Ispires many people and police hose down people having protests. -
Bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church
Birmingham, Alabama- The Klu Klux Klan put a bomb in an all black church, killing four innocent girls. -
Mississippi Burning
Many civil activists were registering black people to vote and 1000's said they would. They al got in the voting line butthe application was unfair. The KKK killed three civil activists involved. -
March from Selma to Montgomery
Alabama- People angered by Jimmy Lee Jackson's death, planned a 54 mile long march but the cops stopped it violently. (This is known as bloody sunday) They marched a second time and the police accompanied them.
