    After the Cold War, this was the beginning of the new American society. The economy was booming thanks to the Cold War, then the baby boom happened.

    Sweatt v. Painter
    A Black man, Heman Marion Sweatt, applied to the University of Texas School of Law but was denied on the basis that integrated education had been prohibited. With the help of Civil Rights Activist, he sued the state and eventually the US Supreme Court ruled in his favor.

    Developing the Polio Vaccines
    After the Cold War, America had funds left over. Jonas Salk was an American medical researcher, he created the vaccine for the polio disease. Polio is a disease that will limit the body functions.

    Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Started by Rosa Parks, who had been tired of sitting in the back of the bus, sparked a protest. After her arrest, Martin Luther King Jr. went to Montgomery to help with further protests. For 2 years the buses were empty because the majority of Black citizens rode the bus, causing the state Supreme Court to step in and deem it unconstitutional for segregated buses.

    The Great Society
    In the 1960's. was called the Great Society, there were a series of programs released by Lyndon B. Johnson that would improve the poverty rate and the quality of life. Some were eliminated but Medicare and Medicaid are still around
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington
    Civil Rights Activist, Martin Luther King Jr., organized a march to encourage the support of the Civil Rights Act in Congress. Over 200,000 people gathered in support of King, the famous "I Have a Dream" speech had been delivered.
  • JFK Assassination in Dallas

    JFK Assassination in Dallas
    After 2 years of being president, John F. Kennedy had been assassinated while driving downtown in Dallas, Texas. His inauguration was January 20th, 1961, his presidency had ended November 22, 1963
  • Civil Rights Act is Passed

    In 1964, Congress announces they had passed Public Law 88-352, which is the Civil Rights Act that prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

    37th President Richard Nixon
    In 1968, Richard Nixon had won the presidential race against Hubert Humphrey and George Wallace. Due to the Water Gate scandal Nixon would resign from being president in 1974

    Dolph Briscoe becomes Texas Governor

    Born in Uvalde, Texas, Dolph Briscoe becomes the 39th Governor of Texas. Briscoe was an active Democrat Party member throughout the 50's and he ran in 1968 but was unsuccessful, but then won the election in 1972. He was know to keep his promise about having no new taxes for Texans.
