    As German immigrants kept coming to Pennsylvania, the Governor of Pennsylvania came up with an oath for those Germans.     Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo Results in US Acquiring Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, California and Parts of Utah and Nevada
    Once the Mexican-American War ended, the US got new states. The people living in those states were citizens of Mexico but the US allowed those residents to become citizens of the United States.   • Ozawa v. US Supreme Court Decides Japanese Are Ineligible for Citizenship

    During this time only ‘Free white persons’ and ‘Aliens of African nativity and persons of African descent’ were granted citizenship. Since Japanese fell under neither of those options, they were not given citizenship.   • US Supreme Court Decides in US v. Bhagat Singh Thind: Asian Indians don’t qualify for Naturalization

    Thind hade applied for citizenship but his application was appealed to the Supreme Court, which declared that ‘Caucasian’ was similar to the meaning of ‘white.’ Many Indians who were granted citizenship had their citizenship revoked and they also lost their properties.

  • Magnuson Immigration Act of 1943

  • Bracero Program Ends; Undocumented Laborers Continue to Enter the US

    The US did not renew the Bracero Program with Mexico yet Mexico wished to continue the program. Laborers from Mexico continued to enter the US Illegally now and were before the program ended.   • Plyler v. Doe Overturns Texas Law Disallowing State Funds fro Illegal Immigrants

    This allowed children of non-citizens or even non-citizen children to receive an education when Texas laws tried to deny them the chance.   • Amerasian Homecoming Act Allows For Children of American Troops in Vietnam to Immigrate to the U.S.

  • California’s Proposition 187: Approved by Voters but Rejected by U.S. District Court

    The District court declared that Proposition 187 was unconstitutional since it was created to deny health care, education and welfare benefits to illegal immigrants.   • AFL-CIO Labor Union Supports Amnesty for Immigrants in the U.S. Illegally

    The AFL-CIO grants amnesty to the millions of hard-working people who contribute to their communities/work yet are denied human rights because of legal status.     In Arizona, the ‘Minutemen’ look out around the US-Mexico border in search of immigrants trying to cross the border illegally.     This act allows the building of a double-layered fence long the US-Mexican Border that is said to be about 700 miles.
