The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand kick-started started World war I. Archduke was an important member of the Austria-Hungary government of the time. This assassination was done by Gavrilo Princip.

Canada joins the war
Canada is forced to join Britain in war as Canada falls under British Dominion. This leads to Canada making its own army and fighting Germany alongside the British and its allies.

Enemy Aliens forced into Labor
Canadians who came from or are related to Germany and its allies were forced into labor camps. This was done to keep watch on them and this also helped them get labor workers for cheap. A lot of people died because of the weather and the hard work conditions with minimal food and water.

Battle of Vimy Ridge
This was Canada's most praised achievement and revolutionary event. They won the battle, but they sacrificed and lost around 10,000 men. This battle was significant in history because it contributed to the conclusion of the war and the establishment of a new age of peace in Canada, which we continue to enjoy to this day. It also granted Canadian society new rights, and it was one of their most successful wars

Prime Minister Borden
During WWI, Sir Robert Borden was Prime Minister and was in charge of the War Measures Act. Borden was convinced that the CEF's performance at Ypres, Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele, and the last 100 days campaign demonstrated that Canada deserved to be recognized as an independent nation. Canada was represented in the League of Nations and the International Labour Organization under Borden's leadership.

Conscription
In order to hold power and support the military Prime minister enforced conscription. He also allowed wives and mothers of soldiers to vote for the incoming election. Conscription also ruined the relationship between French and English-speaking Canadians.

End of WWI
The war was finally over after 4 years Canada and Britsh had won over Germany and their allies. After Canada's performance in the war, Canada became more independent. Canada also held a seat in peace negotiations instead of being under the British, it was an equal partner now.

Spanish Flu
Spanish flu is a flu that came from WWI. Returning soldiers brought it back from the war. Spanish flu had two waves the first one was not that dangerous but the second one was as it can kill a person in a couple of hours of being infected by it. This flu took 50,000 lives in Canada out of around 7 million at the time.

Winnipeg General Strike
During the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919, more than 30,000 workers walked off the job, making it the greatest strike in Canadian history. Workers at factories, stores, transit, and city services went on strike to protest low pay, poor working conditions, and the lack of collective bargaining rights. Jobs were scarce after the war, and housing and food were difficult to come by due to inflation.

Start of Roaring 20's
New technology was introduced like cars, radio, vacuum cleaners, and radio were added during this time. Theaters and plays were also popular at this time. Every Canadian was enjoying life and spending their savings as the war just ended and prosperity bloomed.
