  • Vimy Ridge

    Vimy Ridge was a battle that shaped Canada as a country. We were able to conquer the land in 4 days while the other countries had been for 3 years. Our use of the Creeping Barrage was essential.
  • Korean War

    Canada's impact on the Korean War is widely known. 26 000 brave Canadian soldiers fought on the side of the United Nations.
  • Universal Healthcare/ Canada Health Act

    Tommy Douglas' idea of universal healthcare has helped so many Canadians. This is by far one of the best advantages to living in Canada.
  • Beverly McLachlin becomes Chief Justice

    A woman becoming Chief Justice in 2000 was such a big step for women in Canada. Now we are able to say that women can be seen in prominent positions.
  • Canada's help after 9/11 / Operation Yellow Ribbon

    Canada helped welcome diverted planes in Gander and housed 7,000 Americans. Canada's help following 9/11 was so much appreciated by Americans that it is the inspiration of a popular musical, Come From Away.
  • Thanks to Norway following 2006 Olympic Winter Games

    The Norwegian x-country ski coach quickly gave a Canadian skier a replacement after she had broke hers. The Canadians got third in this race and Norway got fourth. Because we were so thankful the Norwegians gave up a podium position by helping us, we sent thank you cards and 7, 400 maple syrup cans.
  • Indian residential schools settlement agreement

    To begin to compensate for the residential schools we implemented a settlement agreement. Each residential school survivor receives $10, 000 and after that $3, 000/year. This shows we are willing to try and repair our mistakes.
  • First Carbon tax in North America

    B.C implemented the first carbon tax in North America. This was very successful, and is now used nation wide. This shows our effort to suppress climate change.
  • Canada's help after earthquake in Indonesia

    Canada is a country that always goes to help out other countries after natural disasters. The Red Cross Canada brought supplies and volunteers to Indonesia, and helped a lot on its road to recovery after the earthquake and tsunami. The Red Cross still visits today to help with construction and preparation for future catastrophes.
  • Single use plastics ban

    This year, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that single use plastics were to be banned by 2021. This shows how ahead of the curve we are in terms of trying to save the environment, wildlife and in the end, people.
