  • Writs of assistance of 1767

    The Writs of Assistance were a law saying that anyone with a legal document could come into the colonists' houses without permission to look for stuff.
  • proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763 was made on October 7th, 1763 closing off western expansion of the frontier from the Colonists at the end of the French and Indian War. The Proclamation was made as a way to ease the fears of the Indians, who worried that the Colonists would drive them from their lands as they expanded to the West.

    The terms of the Treaty of Paris were harsh to losing France. All French territory on the main of North America was all lost. The British received Quebec and the Ohio Valley. The port of the New Orleans and the Louisiana Territory west of the Mississippi were ceded to Spain for their efforts as a British ally !! .By the Treaty of Paris in 1763, France lost Canada in a favor of Great Britain and all claims to territory east of the Mississippi.

Rum distilling slumped badly and colonial exports overall dropped sharply. The slowing economy was further impacted by currency contraction as people, uncertain of the future, tried to keep their money. Efforts were made to settle debts with paper money rather than gold or silver.

  • boston massacre

    The Boston Massacre was a street fight that occurred on March 5, 1770, between a "patriot" mob, throwing snowballs, stones, and sticks, and a squad of British soldiers. Several colonists were killed and this led to a campaign by speech-writers to rouse the ire of the citizenry.

    The Intolerable Acts were passed in spring 1774, and helped cause the American Revolution.The government spent immense sums of money on troops and equipment in an attempt to subjugate Massachusetts. British merchants had lost huge sums of money on looted, spoiled, and destroyed goods shipped to the colonies.

  • 1st Continental Congress 1774

    On May 27, 1774, the Virginia House of Burgesses proposed a continental congress. A special convention was held on August 1 to elect delegates to the meeting in Philadelphia the following month. Thomas Jefferson, a delegate from Albemarle County, introduced a "Summary View of the Rights of British America." It failed to gain the support of the Virginia convention, but it brought attention to Jefferson as an exponent of the American cause.

Preparations for conflict with the Royal authority had been underway throughout the winter with the production of arms and munitions, the training of militia (including the minutemen), and the organization of defenses. In April, General Thomas Gage, military governor of Massachusetts decided to counter these moves by sending a force out of Boston.

    On May 10, 1775, what became known as the Second Continental Congress was called into session as the British stormed Boston in an attempt to arrest the patriots that publicly voiced their grievances against the crown. With the bloody fights at Concord and Lexington fresh in their minds, the delegates of twelve of the thirteen Colonies came together in Philadelphia to draw up a statement of positions in regards to the actions of the British Parliament.

  • Battle of New York 1776

    On July 3, 1776, British troops landed on Staten Island. Over a period of six weeks, British troop strength was increased so that it number over 32,000 by the end of August. Meanwhile, General Washington was preparing his men as well as he could under the circumstances. Washington was hampered by the British control of the sea. they were fighting fo rnot a very long time .

  • The Battle of Trenton

    Washington’s plan was to cross the Delaware at three points with a force commanded by Lt Col Cadwallader with a Rhode Island regiment, some Pennsylvanians, Delaware militia and two guns and , a second force under Brigadier Ewing and the third commanded by himself which would cross the river above Trenton and attack the Hessian garrison in the town. Washington had as his subordinates they came to attack on christmas day .
