    Built on the Fraser river Fort Langley was the main HBC trading post on the west coast. The products were exported to Europe, the Hawaiian islands, and california.

    In the 1850s gold was discovered on the west coast, by the late 50s gold miners from around the world travelled there, some struck it rich others were skunked. The surge of miners drove up the populations and business.

    Billy Barker had some of the best luck in the gold rush, in an area not known to produce gold he found over $600 000 in gold. To recognize him the miners created a town called Barkerville.
