residential schools
residential schools were government run schools all across Canada, there were designed to make indigenous children and completely unculture them. operated by many churches, they forcefully took children from their families, and put into harsh conditions, including abuse, and only let them speak English. they began in 1831 but really took off in the 1920-1930s.
