Declaration of Independence
The declaration of independence was written on July 4th, 1776 but was officially signed on August 2nd, 1776. This was made so that the colonists could finally gain their independence from Great Britain. -
George Washington Made 1st President of the U.S
George Washington became the first president of the United States on April 30th, 1789. His term lasted from 1789-1792, where he focused on establishing the government and more. -
Bill of Rights Ratification
The Bill of Rights are the first 10 amendments of the constitution. These consist of rights that U.S citizens have and should be upheld to everyone. -
Whiskey Rebellion
The Whiskey Rebellion was a rebellion/protest of primarily western farmers in Pennsylvania to the taxes being imposed on whiskey. It was violent and caused President George Washington to lead his militia force to stop this rebellion. Beginning in 1791, this rebellion was officially over in October of 1794. -
Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions
The Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions were written in 1798 by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. These were made in response to the Alien and Sedition Acts, as a way resolve conflicts between opposing sides in politics. -
War of 1812
The War of 1812 was between the U.S and Great Britain. Due to the British limiting their trade between America and Europe and also the Royal Navy taking men from American ships, this caused America to declare war on Britain. -
Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise was a fair way in which every new state added there would have to be a second one alongside it that was opposite of whatever that state was (free or slave state). Missouri was admitted as a slave state while Maine was admitted as a free state. -
Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine is a foreign policy made by James Monroe where it details the U.S' place in westernization and it's relationship with Europe. It states that the U.S would not let Europe colonize anymore in the Western Hemisphere, any interventions made by Europe would be seen as an invasion and cause military powers to be involved, and American made it's influence distinct from Europe's. -
Dred-Scott v. Sandford
Dred-Scott v. Sandford was the first Supreme Court case where a black man was suing for his freedom. Dred-Scott became a free man when he came into his free state, but ultimately the court ruled he was property and "property cannot sue". -
Manifest Destiny
Manifest Destiny is the idea of the U.S further colonizing west. It is westward expansion and being able to create and add more states and gain more land.
