1763: Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation was given by King George lll after Great Britain gained land from French territory in North America.
The colonist were upset due to the fact that the proclamation didn't allow settlement beyond the Appalachian Mountains and they were being taxed to fund the french and Indian war. -
1764: Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was a tax passed by the Parliament of Great Britain because Great Britain was in debt.
Letters were delivered to Parliament to respond to the Sugar Act. The Sugar Act was stopped in 1765 due to the anger from the colonists but then the stamp act comes shortly after. -
1765: Stamp Act
The British Parliament passed the Stamp Act to help pay for British troops stationed in the colonies. During the The stamp act Britain required that many printed materials in the colonies be made on stamped paper.
The colonist were upset because they got rid of one tax just to pay another. -
1766: Repeal of Stamp Act
After protesting and appealing by Benjamin Franklin at the British House of Commons Parliament voted to repeal the Stamp Act.That same day Parliament passed the Declaratory Acts.
The colonist were happy after the stamp act was repealed not knowing another tax would be present later that day. -
1770: Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre happened when the British Army soldiers shot and killed five people while under attack by a group of unarmed men.
The colonist reacted by reforming the committees of correspondence. -
1773: Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was a political protest by the Sons of Liberty in Boston were they thru British tea into the harbor.
The colonist made the First Continental Congress and petition for Britain to repeal the Intolerable Acts. -
1774: Intolerable Acts
Intolerable Acts were laws passed by the British Parliament after the Boston Tea Party. The laws were meant to punish the colonists for the Tea Party taxation protest.
The colonist were frustrated because they were getting new laws and the British were trying to flex there strength. -
1775: Lexington and Concord
The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military fights of the American Revolutionary War.
The colonist were mad about how they had lost many minutemen but they were very happy because they were major military victories. -
1775: 2nd Continental Congress
The Second Congress managed the Colonial war and moved slowly towards independence. -
1777: Battle of Saratoga
The Battle of Saratoga marked the peak of the campaign. Giving a victory to the Americans over the British in the American Revolutionary War.
The colonist were happy because they had won the war. -
1777: Valley Forge
In Valley Forge commanded by George Washington British forces had captured the American capital of Philadelphia.
The colonist were sick from disease, hunger, and exposure.
