History of Video Games

  • Release of the Magnavox Odyssey

    The first ever home video game console to be released onto the market. It was such a big influence on the video game industry. This made other creators be forced to think and create bigger and better ideas.

  • Gameboy Release

    This console made the biggest impact in my opinion. Not only is/was this console portable, it was lightweight and all of the kids around this time period had one. This was the console that got everyone into playing games.

  • The game "Doom" was released

    This game was the original first person shooter game. It gave chances to play multiplayer with your friends without being in the same room, let alone household. This game was talked about a lot due to the "violent aspects."

  • The game "Crash Bandicoot" was released

    While having being made several amount of versions since this date, this game has helped form todays children as well as the generation before. This game to date has nearly 20 different versions covering mostly aspects of adventure or racing. I have many vivid memories of playing all of the games listened under the Crash bandicoot franchise, these games have always been around and will continue to do so because they are still creating games to date.

  • Release of the PS2 (Playstation 2)

    This console was probably the best selling of all time. It pushed the limits of digital games and creation overall. It was the first gaming console with a DVD drive and allowed space for higher resolution gameplay.

  • Release of the Nintendo Gamecube

    Regardless of the PS2 beating the gamecube to DVD drives, the gamecube had smaller discs for the console. This console also had two 64MB memory slots so you could have the ability to save games. This console personally had one of the biggest effects of my lifetime considering it is the one I grew up with in the household.

  • Release of Xbox Live

    This release gave the ability to play games on the already release Xbox (Nov. 15, 2001) with friends and loved ones from large distances apart from one another. This was very convenient and gave the ability to play with any person from across the world in the comfort of your bedroom. This also was just the start of online gameplay.

  • Release of the (Nintendo) Wii

    Now this console was the one that really changed my childhood. Not only did it have an entire new universe of gameplay, It is backwards compatible with gamecube games and controllers. The Wii remote (Wiimote) itself was revolutionary on its own.

  • The game "Grand Theft Auto V" was released

    Regardless of being made in 2014, this game is heavily played to this day. While lovers of this game are awaiting the release of the sixth addition to the list, this game became popular for it at the time mind-boggling graphics and how semi-real the game came out to be. Also give the ability to customize characters and play online with friends. This game does show very graphic things such as death, shooting, murder, theft, sexual activities/objects, etc.

  • The game "Fortnite" was released

    This online game took over the world in a snap. Able to be played on PC, PS4, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and on Mobile devices (iOS). This game has ben very successful for Epic Games (creator), drawing in 125 million players in several months.
