2 brothers named Paul Van Doren and Jim Van Doren along with partners Gordon Lee and Serge Delia opened their first store at 704 E. Broadway in Anaheim, Calif. on March 16. It originated from the Van Doren Rubber Company. it is known for it's unique rubber on the shoes and how it was different from any other shoe. -
Vans are first displayed in windows
Skateboards were first seen wearing these shoes. People thought this was cool and decided people needed to see these. This was the first big step to Vans becoming successful -
Vans are seen all throughout Southern California
People are starting to love these rubber souls. You have Skateboarders such as Tony Alva and Stacey Peralta are designing new designs. The Era model was created by them. -
The Stripe in invented
These shoes went by the name of Old Skool. These had the now famous Vans Sidestripe. These were the first shoes with the leather panels which increases durability. -
The Slip-Ons are created
these were developed just to make it easier to put on their shoe. BMX riders and Skateboarders loved this and these shoes are still being worn to this day. -
Sk8-Hi
The Sk8-Hi was the now-iconic Vans Sidestripe. the Sk8-Hi took skate functionality to the next level. above the ankle, where skateboarders used and abused their lower extremities the most.Not only did it protect their ankles. it gave them a new look in the park.
