    Car ownership in the UK reached 11 million
    As on 1970, over eleven million British people had a licensed vehicle in the UK. This effected the travel and tourism industry because as more people had cars, it was easier for people to travel to holiday 'staycation' destinations around the UK such as in the 70s, beach holidays were very popular because they were affordable for families. Cars would also allow people to easily travel to the airport, which meant more people were catching flights to go on holiday.

    The Boeing 747, otherwise known as the Jumbo Jet is one of the worlds most recognisable aircrafts. The Jumbo Jet was created by Boeing's Commercial Airplane unit in America, and was flying for around 37 years.

    a series of volcanic eruptions took place in Eyjafjallajökull, Iceland.This caused mass disruption to air travel across Western Europe in places such as the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Spain. The ash cloud was caused by magma cools and solidifies into volcanic rock and glass fragments.The rock fragments mix with solidified fragments of lava that are in the air, which will subsequently create an ash cloud.Many flights were cancelled due to health and safety risks of passengers and staff.

    the London Riots were a series of riots which took place between the sixth and the eleventh of August 2011.15,000 people took part in the riots and it resulted in shops,homes and vehicles being destroyed, five people being killed,hundreds of police officers being injured,and £250 million worth of damage being done.The riots started after a peaceful protest march to demand information and to find out more about the death of Mark Duggan,a black man who was shot dead by police on the 4th of August.

The accommodation industry saw the most drastic decline in turnover during the first national lockdown in March 2020.
