The Periods of the Maya.
The Middle Preclassic Period started at 1000 B.C and ended to about 300 A.D. It stretches from the beginning of the permanent village life to the Classic period. They have a lot of periods that they went through. -
899 BCE
Tikal an abandoned city
In 899 the city of Tikal is abandoned and the Maya are all gone. The population justed poofed away. No one knows why or how they disappeared. The city is now just a ruin with plenty of history. -
751 BCE
Trading system conflict
By 751 the Mayan trading system starts to break down. This causes a conflict and the trading between cities declines. They have stopped trading because the systems started to break down. -
700 BCE
The Writing Of The Mayans
By 700 B.C they created the writing system that was later used to make thousand or millions of books. Now only 4 of the books they wrote still exist. No one can understand the books because of their writing system. -
400 BCE
365 Day Calendar.
By 400 B.C the Mayans invented 365 day calendars. They were correctly calculated to know when the sun and moon arrived. Scientists say they were more accurate than the ones we have now. -

The Location of the Mayans.
Around the 16th century A.D the Mayans lived in tropical lowlands which is now Guatemala. They lived in many of the cities and temples that they built. They mainly lived in big groups like the North and South Mayans. -

The fast growing city of Tikal
By 600 A.D, Tikal, the Mayans capital had Schools, Hospitals,Libraries, and Huge Game Arenas. They were slowly building more and more on to their cities. They started to learn more things and make more things for their cities. -

The Mystery?
Cities then were starting to be abandoned by 1000 A.D and hidden by forests. Somehow most of them just disappeared around when Spanish arrived. Scientists still don’t know why or how they went missing. -
May 12, 1517
The Arrival.
1517 the Spanish arrive Yucatan near the northern tribes of the Maya. The General Hernández de Córdoba, later dies in war against the Maya. The arrival of the Spanish also sends diseases such as smallpox, influenza and measles. -
The Shipwreck.
In 1611 a Spanish ship, 15 passengers, wrecked and only 2 survived. A priest named Gerónimo De Aguilar and Gonzalo Guerrero. Gerónimo De Aguilar rejected but Gonzalo Guerrero did not reject to follow their traditions. Later he became a part of the tribe and fought against the Spanish.
