Cuba Missile Crisis

Oct 22, 1962

JFK announces to Americans that in Cuba there are missiles 70 miles from the US shore, for 13 days there was a standoff until an agreement was made to remove the missiles or the US would invade Cuba from all sides and they were ready to do. They made had a navel blockade around Cuba. This event is what caused ARPA to be formed because they needed to find a way to communicate in case missiles were launched.

The First Computer Modem is Invented

Google First Invented

First Laptop - Osborne 1

The Laptop changed how people worked so the invention of it was very important. They advanced as they were made and now they connect to the internet and work just as well (or better) than normal computers. The first laptop was made by the Osborne computer company. It was 5 inches long and cost $1795, it also didn't have a portable battery and it weight nearly 25 pounds.

The Domain Name System is Created

The first domain name servers (DNS) were created. The system was important because it made addresses on the internet more "human-friendly" compared to the long numerical IP addresses. The DNS servers made it so anyone could type an easy to remember domain name into the computer and it would then find that IP address linked with the name and bring you to the address.

World Wide Web Protocol Fininshed

Wi-Fi Created

It was first made by a company called Lucent, who made a deal with Apple who said if they could create a Wi-Fi port for under $100 they would add it to their new computer coming out. It is now used in most homes for wireless connection.
