    The ICUN has become the the largest environmental network in the world. They raise awareness and participate in conservation projects that have helped to shape the environmental movement.

  • Gaia Hypothesis

    James Lovelock's Gaia Hypothesis proposed that the Earth means so much to the universe. The Gaia Hypothesis effected the Environmental Movement because it expressed appreciation towards the planet and consists of many detailed ideas about the Earth.
  • Rachel Carson's Silent Spring

    This book was a huge factor of the start of the environmental movement in the United States. Rachel Carson writes about the man made pesticides that we inflict on the environment and the publication secured a nationwide phase-out of DDT.
  • The Club of Rome

    The Club of Rome works to better the environment and published The Limits to Growth. The Club of Rome is a part of the environmental movement and has been great in helping to change the world.
  • The Clean Air Act

    The Clean Air Act was established in 1970 to regulate emissions and protect people from hazardous pollutants. The Environmental Movement was effected because not only were people being protected but so was their environment.
  • Stockholm Conference

    The Stockholm Conference is also called the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. It marked a significant step towards the development of environmental politics.

    In the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, an accident at a pesticide plant released around 30 tons of toxins into the air. 30 years later, it still remains. It effected the Environmental Movement as awareness was increased.
  • Sinking of the Rainbow Warrior

    In 1985 French agents planted a bomb in the ship, sinking it. In 1995, the Rainbow Warrior II was sent to protest French nuclear testing.
  • Chernobyl

    A Ukrainian nuclear disaster that released large amounts of radioactive contamination into the atmosphere. An exclusion zone was created from the accident where environmentalists and scientists hoped humans would stay away from due to the abundance of wildlife that lived there.

    The Pollution Prevention Act of 1990 was created with the goals to reduce pollution in the United States. It is a part of the Environmental Movement because it has been successful in increasing efficiency of energy, water and other natural resources without pollution.

    The UN Earth Summit that met in Rio de Jenairo Brazil in 1992 influenced the environmental movement because the outcome of the meeting was the creation of Agenda 21.

    Agenda 21 is a plan of action with regard to sustainable development. It is a part of the environmental movement because they are taking action in many areas where humans impact the environment.
  • Kyoto

    The Kyoto Protocol was adopted in 1997 to prevent dangerous interference from humans with the climate system. It affected the Environmental Movement by engaging and influencing industrialized countries to limit and reduce greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

    The Copenhagen Climate Change Conference has influenced the Environmental Movement because it raised climate change policies to the highest political level.
