Independence
Cambodia gained their independence in 1953 under the rule of King Sihanouk. -

Sihanouk wants to have a more political career. His father becomes the king and Sihanouk becomes prime minister. -

Sihanouk's father dies and Sihanouk becomes head of state. -

Sihanouk breaks the relations between the US and Cambodia. -

The civil war between the government and the KR starts. When it eventually ends about half the population of Cambodia has been wiped. -

A rebellion breaks out in Samlaut, lighting a spark for the civil war. -
Boom boom
The US plans to bomb the North Vietnamese on Cambodian soil. -
Teamwork
US and South Vietnamese forces invaded Cambodia with hopes to drive out Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops who were using Cambodian bases to defeat the South Vietnamese government. -
War between Vietnam.
Fighting breaks out between Cambodia and Vietnam. -

Vietnam forces attack in a lightning assault. -
Trouble, Trouble, and more Trouble.
Hun Sen becomes the prime minister. Cambodia is filled to the brink with guerrilla warfare. Hundrends of thousands become refugees. -
A little peace
Vietnamese troops withdraw from Cambodia. -
Even more Peace
A peace treaty between Cambodia and Vietnam is signed in Paris. -
Surrender
Thousands of guerrillas surrender to the government willingly. -
Khmer Rouge
Khmer Rouge is now one of the biggest threats to Cambodia. -
Pedestrians
In 1994 the Khmer Rouge had a tactic of targeting tourists. The tourists would be taken by taxi and would then be killed. -
Updated Ranks
Hun Sen becomes prime minister. Ranariddh becomes president of the National Assembly. -
Bad Prince
Prince Ranariddh is found guilty of arms smuggling, but is then pardoned by the king. -
End of the Wrath
The Khmer Rouge continued to exist until 1999 when all of their leaders either died or have been arrested. -
New Bridge
First bridge across the Mekong River opens, linking east and west Cambodia. -
Making Enemies.
As 1998 began, the CPP announced an offensive gesture against its enemies in the north. -
