Justinian wanted to bring back the former glory of Rome. During his rule the Hagia Sophia was built and Justinian's Code was created. -

Belisarius was a general under Justinian. He led sea and land expeditions on, and conquered the Vandals and the Ostrogoths.
This continued until 545. -

Hagia Sophia Completed
Hagia Sophia means Holy Wisdom. It was built to be a church, then was made into a mosque, and is now a museum. It is the third building that was built because the first two burned down. -

The Byzantine Empire ended when the Ottomen Empire took over Constantinople. This marked the end of the Middle Ages and of the Roman Empire.
