    Constantine I Founded the Byzantine Capitol
    Constantine rebuilds the Greek city Byzantium and renames it Constantinople. He makes it the capitol of the new empire. The city was located on the shore of Bospurus, a strait located close to the Mediterranean and Black Seas.

    Belisarius, a brilliant general, reconquers North Africa, Italy, and the southern Iberian Penninsula during this time.

    Nika revolts

    Nika revolts
    A group of people in crowd at an event start attaking the palace and the city. It went on for one week, half the city was destroyed and tens of thousands of people were killed.

    Hagia Sophia completed

    Hagia Sophia completed
    To restore Roman glory after the Nika rebellion, Justinian I rebuilds the church of Hagia Sophia, which means "Holy WIsdom". The church had an arching dome, colored marble, and embroidered silk curtains.

    A large divide due to arguments and disagreements in the Christian church between the east and west. The Byzantines on the east became orthodox and the west became the Roman Catholic church.

    Alexios I contacts Pope Urban II
    Emperor Alexios asks the Pope for his christian knights to help fight the turks with him. Although the Byzantine emperor and the Pope were rivals, the pope agrees.

    Fourth Crusade Attacks Constantinople
    Crusaders attack the city of Constantinople and destroy the city, leaving them weakened. They also took control of the islands owned by the Empire.

    Fall of Consatantinople
    The Ottomon Turks, led by Mehmet II, attack the city of Constantinople. The city falls, because they were already weak after the fourth crusade.

    Basil II military conquests of Bulgaria

    Emperor Basil 'Bulgaroctonus' ('Bulgar-slayer') gathered army to defeat Bulgaria after a series of conflicts. Finally, in 1018, the Bulgarians finally surrender.
