Boston Franchise
In 1901, the American League included the Boston team as one of their eight chartered teams which consisted of; the first place Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Detriot Tigers, Philadelphia Athletics, Washington Senators,Cleveland Blues, and Milwaukee Brewers. The Boston based team was called the Boston Americans and their manager was named Jimmy Collins. They finished their first season with 79 wins and 57 losses. -
"Boston Pilgrims" win the first ever World Series
The Boston Pilgrims won five of the eight games defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first ever World Series in 1903. The Pilgrims defeated the Pirates in the final four games to give Boston the first ever championship. -
"Red Sox" Name
In 1907, John Taylor decided to rebrand the team by having them adopt the color red. He also decided to change the name of the team to the Red Sox after the National League Boston team stopped wearing their red socks. -
Fenway Park Opening
In April 1912, Fenway Park finally held its first game after two home games were cancelled due to rain. The stadium was built in Boston, Massachusetts and is now considered to be one of the most historic parks in league. The Red Sox beat the New York Highlanders, who are now known as the Yankees. Fenway park is currently the oldest ballpark still standing, and holds the most "beloved" fan in baseball. -
The sale of Babe Ruth
On December 26, 1918 the sports world changed forever. The sale of the greatest player to play the game to the New York Yankees by the Red Sox owner Harry Frazee. This sale is speculated to have happened becasue Frazee was looking to finance a broadway play. This sale changed Boston forever, instilling the "Curse of the Bambino" onto the city. -
Yawkey Buys the Sox
Tom Yawkey purchased the Red Sox in 1933 for $1.25 million. At the time, the team was not doing well. Through major changes in the roster, Yawkey was able to turn the team around. He later went on to rebuilt Fenway and through his large amount of wealth was able to sustain the team. -
Fenway Park Fire
The fire was located in the left-field grandstand and the center field bleachers which had just be constructed. The fire was five hours long. The owner Tom Yawkey, employed union labor to quickly restore the park in preperation for then 1934 season. This allowed more jobs for people helping the economy. -
Ted Williams
Ted Williams played for the Red Sox between 1939 and 1960. He was away when he served in World War II between 1942 and 1946, and then when he served during the Korean Conflict between 1952 and 1953. Fans loved him and he was an excellent player-he hit 521 home runs throughout his career. -
Red Sox Intergrate
Elijah Green was the first black member of the Red Sox. His nickname was "Pumpsie" and he played in a variety of positions. The Red Sox were the last team in the MLB to intergrate and he played with them until 1962 when he went to go play for the Mets. -
Carl Yastrzemski Joins the Sox
Carl Yastrzemski, a left fielder, was the replacement for Ted Williams. He joined the team in 1961 and played his whole career with the Red Sox for a total of 23 years. He was named an all-star 18 times, the winner of the Gold Glove seven times and the winner of the American League Triple Crown. -

Within his first year of eligiblity, Ted Williams in 1966 was indicted into the baseball hall of fame. -
Wally The Green Monster
Wally tthe Green Monster first appreared in 1997. Younger fans accepted him right away, while older fans of the Red Sox took longer to accept the new mascot. Jerry Remy, a broadcaster, created stories about Wally and shared them during games since 2002. Also, Wally makes apperances at charity events and other activities. -
John Henry and Partners Buy the Red Sox
In February of 2002, the sale of the Red Sox closed. The MLB approved the $660 million sale of the team to John Henry and his team of buyers. This was one of the largest sales of a MLB team in the league's history. -
Green Monster Seats
In 2003, the Red Sox Ownership deciced to install seats above the famous "Green Monster" wall. They built 274 seats and the tickets for them often sell out weeks in advance. -
Cowboy Up!
Dave Roberts stolen base The Red Sox complete the largest come back in professional sports history with thier 10-3 victory in game 7 over the Yankees. The Red Sox were down three games to nothing going back to New York for game four. With their backs against the wall the Red Sox delivered, winning the nect four games and advancing to the World Series! -
The Curse is Broken!
During the World Series in 2004, the Red Sox broke their "curse" that exsisted since 1918. The Red Sox wasted no time defeating their National League opponent the St. Louis Cardinals in a four game sweep. -
Red Sox win again!
The Red Sox win their second championship in four years defeating the Colorado Rockies in four games. -
Boston Marathon Ceremony
On April 15, 2013, there were bombings near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. This event rocked the Red Sox's city, and on the 20th, they held a ceremony to honor the victims and the police. During this ceremony, David Ortiz said 'this Is our f--king city', which garnered a lot of press. -
Red Sox World Series champions
In 2013, the Boston Red Sox were projected to finish last in the American League-East by many different baseball experts. However, that's why we play the games and the Red Sox finished with the best record in the American League. This propelled them to another World Series were they defeated the Cardinals once again for their 3rd championship since 2004.
