History of the Board Game

  • May 15, 1149

    The first board game: Dice!

    The first ever game was invented in 5000 bc ("bc" couldn't go in the year). THey were discovered just outside of a tomb that had 49 small carved stones lying by it. The people that had discovered it decided to toss it up into the air and see how many dots landed facing up. Soon the dice became very popular and still is to this day. This effected our board game because in order to know how many spaces to advannce you must roll a dice.
  • Cardboard

    The first cardboard ever presented was on a commercial in England. Soon people began to make pre-cut cardboard or boxes. Soon the cardboard was a great material to create board games. This effected our board game because our board is made out of cardboard.

    The Great Depression

    The Great Depression was a time of sadness. There were people that were bankrupt or homeless. During this timeframe the very popular board game "Monopoly" was made. Even though "Pay Day" was invented in 1975 people still think of it as a time of the Great Depression. If it was not for The Great Depression, board games would not be as popular as they are today.
  • Monopoly

    In 1933 the game of Monopoly was created. It had a lot to do with the Great Depression and how you can go bankrupt and all of that. Monopoly really increased the use of board games and to this day are very fun and common. Monopoly also represents the changes made to board games. It shows how people are making the toys better. Then games like Monopoly and Pay Day where manufactured. These games have shown the way how board games have become more and more popular.
  • Space Race

    The Space Race was a time whne the Soviets and America pretty much had a contest on who could make it to the moon first. The Space Race casued nw board games to come out along with toy rocket ships. Becasue of the space race the board games were begining to get more and more popular. Because they were more popular we decided to make a board game that would also become popular. An example of a board game based off of the Space Race is "The Great Space Race".
  • Star Wars Released

    Star Wars was a movie about... well, the name says it all. Anyways, Star Wars imediatly became popular. People were crawling all over the place searching for their Star Wars gear. Thanks to the popularity of the movie people made board games to the movie. Now there are many star wars board games. A game that was made based off of Star Wars is : "X-Wing", Imperial Assault, and "Star Wars the card game".
  • The Imagination Run

    The Imagination Run from Creation Nation is a game that tests how big your imagination really is. It is an entertaining and fun way to get your creativity moving into high gears. The first step to it is rolling a large die. What ever it lands on is how many spaces you move your pawn. When your pawn runs out of spaces to move you select the color card of which color the space was.
  • Playing Cards

    The first playing card was invented in China during the Tang Dynasty. Playing cards have changed the way of the board game becasue cards are used to tell you what to do. This effected our board game because we require cards becasue on the cards it tells the player what they must do in order to advance a space.
