Sep 7, 1927

Electronic television was first debut by Philo Taylor Farnsworth, a 21-year-old inventor, who lived in a house without electricity untill he was 14. His system sucessfully trasferred a picture coded in radio waves that could be replicated in another location. Other inventors such as Boris Rossing were also working with picutre replication.

First Talking Film

The first talking movie "The Jazz Singer" is released.

First Electronic Television event

Apr 30, 1939

RCA invested $50 million into develpoed of television. RCA televised the opening of the 1939 Worlds Fair in New York, including a speech by President Roosevelt.

Television off to a rough start

In April 1940, there was only about 2000 television sets in America. However, this was an improvement from 1939.

World War 2

Jun 6, 1944

When World War 2 happened, television sales dropped. The manufacturing of televisions mostly stopped, but broadcasting continued. In Britain, all television manufacturing and broadcasting stopped.

Stratovision

Jun 23, 1948

First proposed in 1946 Strotovision was to bring television to rural communities. Basically, a plane flew over an area carrying a transmitter, but was made obsolete by cable networks.

Broadcasting Stations

In America, there are 103 Tv stations in about 60 cities.

Color Television

After much controversy over the CBS and RCA television sets, the FCC decides to adopt the RCA version as the standerd.

Remote Control

In 1957 the first practical remote was created. It was created by Robert Adler and it was called the Space Commander. It was proudced by Zentih. It didn't work well if the sun shone between the remote and the T.V.

TELSTAR satellite

The first Transatlantic television receptionhappened after the launch of the TELSTAR satellite. It occured between Andover, MN and Pleumeur-Bodou, France.

Fiber optic lines are invented

Created byRobert Maurer, Donald Keck, and Peter Schultz. It transfreed information with puleses of light, allowed for more efficent transmissions.

VCR

Jun 9, 1972

The Phillips Corporation creates VCR for home use.

"OpenSkies"

Jun 10, 1972

The FCC announces "Open Skies", allowing domestic communications satellites. This greatly expanded television's capabilities.

HDTV

Jun 9, 1981

The Japanese company NHK introduced the 1,125 line HD system.

Analog to Digital

Jun 12, 2009

At midnight, all analog television broadcasts stopped. The more superior digital was now the only television option.
