  • The Soviets launched first satellite into space

    The Soviet Union put the first artifical satellite, Sputnik 1, into orbit. This is important becuase if they wouldn't have launched it then we might not have sent ours into space to compete with them.

  • US launched first satellite to compete with Russians

    The first satellite we launched into space is called Explorer 1. This is important because when we launched Explorer 1 it gave the US its confidence back after many unsuccessful launches and the lauch of Sputnik.

  • The Soviets launched the first human into space

    This was good because then US then scheduled for a man into orbit to yet again compete with the russians.

  • Yuri Gagorin was launched into space by the Soviets

    if the soviets wouldn't have launched him into soace then the US wouldn't have that to compete with.

  • Kennedy announced we were going to the moon.

    Before a special get together Kennedy told everyone that we were going to the moon. This would be inportant becuase he had let everyone know that they were planning to go to the moon. Rather than just going to the moon and not having anyone one watch the first man go to the moon

  • John Glenn obitted Eath 3 times

    It's important becuase by launching him into orbit it completed one of our goals to launch a man into orbit.

  • Neil Armstrong landed on the moon successfully.

    if Neil Armstrong wouldnt have gone to the moon many people wouldnt have got to go the moon after him.

  • Mir fell to earrth.

    This was important because this space air craft was in orbit for 15 years. thats a long time!

  • NASA discovered one of Saturns rings could might be able to have life.

    Having another place for humans to live would be cool! We would have more room on Earth!

  • US annouces plan to put a perminant colony of people on the moon

    This is important because people can not live on the moon forever.
