+ First memories - a 4th birthday gift from my parents
I was thrilled to open this gift. My own record player. My dad was a disc jockey in his days before family and kids. It was the start of so many musical memories. -
- Crank Calls
Our phone number spelled an inappropriate word, 359-3825. We received a lot of crank calls with others explaining what our numbers spelled. My mom turned it around, "It spells FLY-DUCK." -
+ ATARTI
I can remember waiting for the release of Pac Man. It seems like we were on a wait list for a long time. I want to say that Pac Man was pretty pricey back then at $40. I could be wrong. I spent many hours on this console. I have UI challenges when attempting modern game consoles such as the XBox. There are so many controls! -
+ Computers in School
We had one computer introduced in our 4th grade classroom. We had to put commands in to control programs. I don't recall what type of programs we used, but it was a positive experience. -
+ Mechanically Inclined
I was encouraged by my parents to fix electronics and help build new technologies. I had the patience and curiousity to figure most thigs out. I credit my confidence to attempt the unknown with my experience with sports. -
+ First International Flight
My parents and I flew to London to visit my sister. I was only 16. I was served at a bar, pierced the top part of my ear, took the Tube, and watched my mom suffer from jet lag. Travel is fun! Little did I know that this was only the begining of my world travels. -
+ Email
I had access to a lab in college, mainly for word processing and email. I signed up for my first Hotmail account. -
-Tech with Travels
My how times have changed. During our first big travels through to Mexico and Central America, our communications back home were through a super slow internet cafe (hard to find) or carging up a phone card. All options were more expensive than today. -
+ Film Makers in the Classroom
I connected with JoAnne from the SFFS and piloted their youngest class to participate in this program. Our 4th grade class worked with Myles to create digital stories about changed they would like to see in their community. -
++ Love
I married my best friend, Mateo. He is a UX designer who has helped build my tech skills and confidence. I help him with the perspective of educating his clients. -
+ You are Hired!
I joined the Kentfield teaching team as their technology teacher. My position evolves and changes every year. Several years before I joined the team, they had broken apart their computer lab moving away from technology as a stand alone class. I started visiting every class with a laptop cart. This role transitioned to a technology coach, but really I was teaching many of the lessons that integrated technology. As time ticks, teachers are taking more responsibility... -
- Challenges
I know I am not suppose to, but I often use a handful of passwords for the many logins needed in today's "secure" online navigation. It is the sites that ask you for particular requirements (like SSU's Moodle) that frusturate me.
